Notes for *Katherine De Roet |
At age 16 she married Sir Hugh de Swynford. They had two children. While married to Hugh, she served as lady-in-waiting to Blanche, the wife of John of Gaunt, Duke of Lancaster. She became John's mistress and gave birth to Henry and Joan Beaufort out of wedlock. They did marry following Blanche's death. Their two children were legitimized by act of Parliament with the agreement that the children would not be in line to succeed to the throne of England. |
