Notes for Queen of England, *Matilda "Maud" of Flanders |
219 She was the daughter of Baldwin IV, Count of Flanders, and of Adela, Princess of France. She married William while he was Duke of Normandy and was crowned Queen in 1068.
Of her 11 children, the best known are Robert, who became Duke of Normandy, William Rufus and Hunry Beauclerc, both of whom succeeded to the English crown. She had great influence with her husband, and brought about a reconciliation between he and his son, Robert who had taken up arms against him.
