He succeeded as Baron Willoughby of Eresby, which title continued in the family until 1506, when it was carried by an heir female to the family of Bertie (ancestor of the present [when the book was published] Duke of Ancaster). He succeeded as Baron in 1396 and was summoned to Parliament 1397-1410, in which year he died. Married three times: Lucy(daugh. of Roger, Baron Strange), Joane Holland and lastly Joan, the Fair Maid of Kent who mothered Margaret (Margery).
He was 24 yrs. old at the death of his father, and in 1399 he was one of the peers in Parliament when Richard II made his formal resignation of his royal dignity. In 1403 under Henry IV, he was retained to attend the King in his expedition into Scotland with three knights beside himself, 27 men at arms, 169 archers and continue from June to Sept. ensuing. |
