142He succeeded his brother John in the estate and was bred to the bar and attained great eminence. He was first chosen one of the King's Serjeants, and in 33rd of Edward III, 1359, was constituted one of the Judges of the King's bench. In three years afterwards he was sworn in as Lord Chief Baron of the Exchequer and he continued in that high judicial station until the 40th year of that same reign, the time of his decease, 1366. His lordship married Alice, only daughter and heir of Sir William de Hiltoft, Lord of Ingoldmells, and had issue William, his heir, John, Patrick and Stephen, and two daughters, Alice and Margaret. (Sir William Hiltoft's wife was sister and sole heir of Sir Ralph de Muer, Lord of Calthrop and Coverham in County Lincoln. Sir William's father was another Sir William Hiltoft, whose wife was Agnes, daughter of Thomas de Willoughby and his wife Margaret de Munby. Thomas de Willoughby took the name of Munby and was a brother of Robert de Willoughby, Lord of Eresby, and they were sons of William Willoughby and Alice Beke [Gen. 8. W.] Agnes de Willoughby de Munby was heir to her brother William, and Sir William de Skipwith received this estate.
