1422nd Butler, or Bottelier , of Ireland. He was about 6 yrs of age at his father's death, and attaining his full age in 1221(during the reign of Henry III), and had livery of his estate 18 Jul 1222, and thereupon assumed the surname of Butler from the said office of Chief Butler of Ireland. He gave a greater part of his lands at Sleiwn to the priory of All Saints in Dublin, and in 1247 was Lord Justice of Ireland. He married 1st Joan, and second Rohese, daugh of Nicholas Verdun on 4 Sep 1225. After his second marriage he took the name of Verdun, as his wife was so great an heiress. |
