307RELIGIOUS AFFILIATION: Protestant He moved to Cecil Co. abt. the time of marriage which was about 1689. He probably lived at "Carvile Hall" which still stood in 1979. LEGISLATIVE SERVICE: Lower House, Cecil Co. 1697/98-1699 (resigned aft. 3rd. session to become sheriff); Kent Co., 1708A, 1708B (died before 2nd session of 1708B-1711 Assembly). LOCAL OFFICES: Sheriff, Cecil Co. 1694-1696, 1700-1702; Justice, Cecil Co. 1697-1700 (quorum, 1697/98-1700); Kent Co. 1707-1709 (quorum). WEALTH: Land at 1st election was greater than 800 acres. It stated: To wife Mary, extx., dwelling plantation ___, and Gunpowder Island during life; at her decease Gunpowder Island to be sold for benefit of estate, title of which is still vested in James Phillips, from whom it was bought. To son John, all lands ___, excepting those given his mother during her life. To 4 daus., ___, personalty and lands afsd., should son John die without issue. Overseers: brothers-in-law James phillips and Aquila Paca. Test: Thos.
