Dict. of Maryland Legislators. -------------------------------------------------- Liber FF - Provincial Court Proceedings, 1668, State of Maryland, pp. 722-724 This Indenture made the ninth day of November in the Seaven and thirtyeth yeare of the Dominion of Caecilius Absolute lord and Proprietary of the Provinces of Maryland and Avalon lord Baron of Baltemore &c annop d¤i One thousand six hundred Sixty eight Betweene Timothy Goodridge of Talbott County on the one part and John Staines of the Citty of Bristoll mchant on the other pte Wittnesseth that the sd Timothy Goodridge for & in consideracon of the sume of Foure thousand pounds of tobacco to him in hand payd by the said John Staynes the receipt whereof the said Timothy Goodridge doth hereby acknowledge and thereof and of e_y part and parcell thereof doth hereby Absolutely & cleerly exonate accquitt & discharge the said John Staynes his heires executors administrators & Assignes by theis pnts hath given granted bargained Aliened Sold enfeoffed and Confirmed And by theis pnts doe give grant bargaine Alyen Sell Enfeoffe and Confirme unto him the said John Staynes his heires and assignes fore[ever?] All that moyety and one halfe of a Parcell of land called New Yorke lying in Talbott County and on the South side of Chester River in langfords bay beginning att a mked pine standing by a Cove side & running by the land of John Tully Southeast and by South foure hundred perches bounded on the East by a lync drawne Northeast and by East from the end of the South east & by east line five hundred perches then North one hundd pches untill itt Intersect with the land of Robert Cager and by Cagers land to the first marked Pyne on the South by the first South east & by South lyne Conteyning and now laid out for eight hundred acres more or lesse To be holdcn of the Mann of Baltemore & now in the Tenure or possession of Henry Hosier & the said Tim- othy Goodridge Together with all the Rights & benifitts there unto belonging Royall mines excepted and alsoe all patents Deeds writings and evidences touching or Concerning the same To have and to hold the said Moyety and one half e of the said parcell of land & all and singuler the said Bargained premises unto him the said John Staynes his heires and assignes fore To the only proper use and behoofe of him the said John Staynes his heires and asss for eu And the said Timothy Goodridge for him self e his heires executors and Adminis- trators Doth hereby Covenant & grant to and with the said John Staynes his heires and assignes that he the said John Staynes his heires executors and Administrators the said Moyety and one halfe of the said parcell of land and all other the bargained premisses unto him the said John Staynes his heires and assignes against all mann of persons whatsoever shall and will for e[ver] hereafter warrant and defend by theis presents the Rents and Services hereafter to become due to the lord Proprietary for the same allwaies excepted and fore- prized And further that he the said Timothy Goodridge his heires and assignes shall and will from tyme to tyme and att all all tymes hereafter during the Space of Seaven yeares and att the requests and pper Costs and Charges in the law of him the said John Staines his heires and assignes Doe make execute and suffer and cause to be Done made executed and suffered all and euy such further and other act and Acts thing or things Device or Devices assureance or assure- ances whatsoe[ver] Requisite in the Law for the assureing and more assure makeing of the said Bargayned premises unto him the John Staynes his heires and assignes foreU Beitt by Inroliment of theis pnts Fyne Feofmt or otherwise or by any other such lawfull wales or meanes as by him the said John Staines his heires or assignes or by his or their Councell learned in the law shall be reasonbly devised advised or required In wittnes whereof the parties to theis pnts have Enterchangeably sett their hands and Scales the Day and yeare first above written Timothy Goodridge Sealed & deli[v]ed in the p[rese]nce of Henry Hosier Wm King Edward Savage ----------------------------------------------------- Liber FF , pg. 672 - Provincial Court Proceedings, 1668:12 Dec 1668 State of Maryland Dennis Holland Serut to Thomas Cooper the Admt of Thomas Freeman Craues aduizmt of the Court Concerning the Contract made between himselfe and Henry Hosier his first master of whome hee was purchaced by the said Freeman wherein his then mastr Hosier was to pay him a Certaine sume of mony att the expiracon of Three yeares which is denyed to be due by Thomas Cooper the Admr and being now departing the prouince desires of the Court who must sattisfy him the said money, Opinion of the Board that hee must serue three yeares from the Arriuall of the shipe and bee sattisfyed the same by his last master hee shall serue. ----------------------------------------------------- He and his wife Johanna and at least four children: Henry, Johanna, Elizabeth and Mary came to Kent Co., Md. by 1671. He served in the Assembly of Md. as a delegate from Kent County from 1676 to 1682. He patented "Bristol", 150 acres, on 15 Jun 1681. His will was dated 5 Jan 1685/6 and proved 3 May 1686. To his son, Morgan Jones and dau. Johannah Jones and to dau. Eliza, he left personalty. Son Henry, was named executor and residuary legatee. His estate was administered on 5 Jun 1686 and 1 Nov 1698. Source: Colonial Families of the Eastern Shore, Vol. 1, The Hosier Family, Pages 199-200 -------------------------------------------------- Liber M M, p.107, Provincial Court Proceedings, 1673. 171 [Date: abt 12 Nov 1673] Henry Hosier & all ffrancis Kilborne late of Charles County gentl agt otherwise called ffrancis Kilborne of the Prov ffrancis Kilborne ince of Maryland in Charles County planter was suthoned to answere unto Henry Hosier & John Staynes of a plea that he Render unto them or Either of them for the account of Mr Wm Bullock of the Citty of Bristol Marchant the full & Just sume of Ten hundred thirty foure pounds of good Marchantable Tobacco and Casque to conteine ye same to them he oweth & from them unjustly Deteynes. And whereupon they the said Henry Hosier and John Staynes Liber M M by George Parker their Attorney say that whereas the said ffrancis Kilborne the fourth day of May in the yeare of our Lord 1670 by his certeine bill or writing obligatory sealed with the seale of the said ffrancis and here in Cort pduced whose date is the day and yeare first abovewritten did binde himself his heires Executors Admrs or assignes to pay or cause to be payd unto Henry Hosier and John Staynes of the Citty of Bristol Marchants or either of them or Either of their heires Executors Admrs or assignes for the accompt of Mr William Bullen of the Citty of Bristol Marchant at or before the Tenth day of October next Ensueing the date thereof the full & Just sume of Tenn hundred thirty foure pounds of good Mar chantable Tobacco and Casque to Conteine the same within halfe a mile of some Convenient Landing place of the Clifts, The vallue of wch said Tobacco is already Received in goods Notwithstanding the said ffrancis the said sume of Tenn hundred thirty foure pounds of Tobacco to them the said Henry and John or to either of them hath not payd though often required but the same to pay hath Re fused and still doth Refuse, whereupon they say they are Damnifyed and have losse to the value of fifteene hundred pounds of Tobacco, and thereupon they bring their suite And the said ffrancis by Robert Carvile his Attorney cometh and Defendeth the force and injury when &c and as to six hundred and Twelve pounds of Tob pt of the said Debt of One Thowsand thirty foure pounds of Tobacco the said Robert sayes nothing in Debarring the said Henry of Judgmt for the same agt the said ffrancis by the said Henry Remaineth agt the said ffrancis thereupon undefended Therefore it is Considered by the Cort here that the said Henry have Judgemt for the said six hundred and Twelve pounds of Tobacco debt and One hundred Seaventy & Two pounds of Tobacco costs of suite, and the said ffrancis in mercy &c. -------------------------------------------------- At a Court holden for ye County of Kent, March 25th 1676, Present--Mr. Joseph Wickes Mr. James Ringgold Mr. John Hinson Mr. Henry Hosier. -------------------------------------------------- 178Whereas Mr. Henry Hosier was summoned . . . . to show cause whearefore Mrs. Mary Tilghman, Executrix of Richard Tighman, might not have Execution upon an order of Court, detained against him in March Court 1674-5 for two thousand one hundred pounds of Tob. with Costs of Suit ye sd Mr. Hosier having satisfied neither debt nor costs of suit, as is made apparent; This Court doth order Execution to ye sd Tilghman for ye sd Debt with Costs of Suite. -------------------------------------------------- Gloucestershire Probate Records - Stray wills proved at Bristol, England in 1678 - Abstracts of Wills Proved at Bristol for which the Testators died elsewhere than the immediate Bristol area. The same sent down to the Lower house by the Secretarys Mr Sewall and Mr Darnall who return and say the have Delivered the same and that the Lower house will peruse it Coll Lowe and Coll Stevens Appointed by this house to Join with Captain Smith and Mr Hosier Members of the Lower house as a Committee of both houses to Consider of the Method for Bringing in Money into this Province and the said Coll Lowe and Coll Stevens sent to the Lower house with this Message Vizt -------------------------------------------------- 178Att a Court called and held for the electing Delegates for the sd county this third Day of November 1685 & likewise for Laying the County Levy By a just and free Election of the Freemen of the sd County, Mr. Henry Hosier and Mr. Michael Miller were chosen Burgesses for this said County of Kent. -------------------------------------------------- 178SEC. 110. At a Court holden for Kent County the 22d day of March in the Twelfth year of the Dominion of the Rt. Honble Charles Lord Baron of Baltimore. Annoq Domi. 1686-7. The Court Orders and appoints Constables for the year ensuing: Thomas Seward, Constable for Eastern Neck. Benjamin Ricaud, Constable for Swan Creek. James Wattson, Henry Hosier, William Bateman, Constables for Langford's Bay. Richard Jones, Constable, Upper Hundred, Kent Island. Edward Jones ordered to remain until sufficient cause to the Court, showed to the contrary as aforesaid. This Court orders that Mr. Wm. Harris who is bound for England, to buy and bring for the County of Kent the weights and scales according to Law for each Towne in said County and the costs and charge shall be allowed him in said County Levy. -------------------------------------------------- WILL: Hosier, Henry, Sr., Kent Co., 5th Jan., 1685-6; 3rd May, 1686.
