There are three generations of Andrews living in his household. This Andrew, head of the household, was born in Md. and his father, who is living with him, was born in Ireland, as was his mother. -------------------------------------------------- 1887 Baltimore City Directory shows Andrew M. Whalen as a conductor living at 841 McHenry. -------------------------------------------------- Andrew M. Whalen is listed in the 1890 Baltimore City Directory as a laborer living at 841 McHenry St. -------------------------------------------------- R.L. Polk & Co.'s Baltimore city directory for 1899 lists Andrew M. Whalen, conductor, 841 McHenry -------------------------------------------------- The 1900 Census for Baltimore, Md. lists Andrew as being age 43 and living in the home he rents on McHenry St. He is employed as a Brakeman for the Railroad. He and all in his household can read and write. Also living in his home are wife, Mary; son, Andrew, Jr.; twin daughters, Ella and Kate; daugh., Augusta; son, Joseph, and daugh., Julia. Elizabeth (Bess) is already out of the home and living with her husband, Jos. C. Rivers "Grampy". The census states Andrew and Mary had given birth to 7 children. However, a son Thomas was listed in the 1880 census as a baby, and he was not present on this census. There is a Joseph A. listed as a son that I didn't see on the census of 1880. The census states Mary had given birth to 8 children and 7 were still living. This Joseph would make it nine. Occupation of Jos. A. is Brakeman for the railroad. ------------------------------------------------- In the 1920 Census for Balto. City, Md., he's living at 1042 Lombard St. His occupation is listed as Conductor for the Railroad. He is age 68 and now widowed. It states he was born in Md. and both parents were born in Ireland. Living in his household are his daughter, Catherine; his son-in-law Joseph C. Rivers and daughter, Elizabeth B. Rivers. -------------------------------------------------- The 1930 Census for Balto., Md. shows that Andrew's age at time of census was 77 years. He owns his home at 1042 Lombard St., and the value of his real estate is $2300.00. His marital status is widowed. He is working as a Watchman for the railroad.
