According to the Essex County, Mass. website, there is an Edward Swain listed on the 1790 census for Newburyport, Essex Co., MA. on line 90. --------------------------------------------------- Edward is listed as an American Revolutionary War Veteran in The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution Volume 15, page 355 Mrs. Caroline W. Swain Talbot. DAR ID Number: 14957 Born in Massachusetts. Wife of Charles Carroll Talbot. Descendant of Edward Swain, of Massachusetts. Daughter of William Swain and Elizabeth M. Swain, his wife. Granddaughter of Jacob Swain and Ruth Swain, his wife. Gr.-granddaughter of Edward Swain and Elizabeth Swain, his wife. Edward Swain, (1752-98), served in Capt. Benjamin Perkin's company, Col. Moses Little's regiment, 1775. He was born at Newburyport, where he died. [BJ's Note: Although the above entry has a year of birth that differs from my records, and his birthplace is recorded as Newburyport, MA, I believe it is this Edward they're speaking about. Another lady joined the D.A.R. with the following genealogy notes that are more lined up with mine.] The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution Volume 73, pg. 329 Descendant of Edward Swain, of Massachusetts. Daughter of Thomas Clay Carter (b. 1845) and Azaline E. Lott (b. 1845), his wife, m. 1869. Granddaughter of Elisha B. Lott (1819-1903) and Elizabeth Swain (1825-1900), his wife, m. 1845. Gr-granddaughter of Stephen Swain (1794-1831) and Nancy Prescott (1801-86), his wife, m. 1820. Gr-gr-granddaughter of Edward Swain and Elizabeth Goves (1756-1835), his wife, m. 1774. Edward Swain (1751-98) enlisted, 1775, as a private in Capt. Benjamin Perkins' company, Col. Moses Little's regiment. He was born at Hampton Falls; died at Newburyport. Found this info. on Col. Moses Little's engagements: Colonel Moses Little, who won distinction under Washington at the battle of Bunker Hill. He led three companies across Charleston Neck under a severe fire from the British batteries, reaching the scene of action before the first charge of the enemy. His regiment was also at Flatbush Pass in the disastrous battle of Long Island. -------------------------------------------------- Swain, Edward, Newbury (also given Newburyport).Private, Capt.
