Notes for *John TODD | ||||||||||||||
*** I had previously mistyped John's birth year as that of a brother named John who was b. 20 Aug 1766 & d. in the same year. I discovered the mistake by rereading The Todd Family in America. ------------------------------------------------- Lived in St. Albans, VT and Manlius, NY -------------------------------------------------- According to the application for a Rev. War pension by John's brother, Dr. Jonathan E. Todd, John's brother innoculated him for small pox in 1779. -------------------------------------------------- According to Kathy Crowell of the Manlius Historical Society, "The Todds owned mills at Whetstone Rd. (earlier known as Todd's Mill Rd.) just south of Manlius Village, and also just downstream from the old mills on Pompey Center Rd. John and his son, Timothy, purchased the mills in February 1836 after having leased them for several years. Originally from Connecticut, they settled in Manlius in 1811. John Todd died in 1841 at the age of seventy-four. In June 1852, Timothy sold the gristmill on the property to Coburn and Merrill who converted it into a papermill. " See personal notes on Timothy for more details. -------------------------------------------------- There is a John Todd in the 1830 census for Manlius, Onondaga Co., NY. There is a John Todd " " 1840 " " " " " " -------------------------------------------------- The following entries appeared in a newspaper (don't know name) in Manlius, NY. listed on Onondaga County's GenWeb site: 1) A man named John E. Todd owned a dry goods store in Manlius Village on Jan. 10, 1831. 2) There is a John E. Todd purchased Dry Goods stock of Ewers, Todd & Co. opposite the cotton factory.
