Note: For the benefit of my family, Caleb is one of BJ's maternal 4th great grandfathers. He was the grandfather of Dr. George B. Todd who is seen in the banner above.


The people of the State of New Yorke: To Norman todd, a son of Caleb Todd deceased, send greeting: Whereas the said Caleb Todd, as is alledged, lately died intestate, being at, or immediately previous to his death, an inhabitant of, or having left asetts, which then were, or have since come within the county of Onondaga, by means whereof the ordering & granting administration of all and singular the goods, chattels, & credits of which the said intestate died possessed, andall the auditing, allowing & final discharging the account thereof, doth belong unto our suragate of our said county of Onondaga, and we, being desirous that the goods, chattels & credits of the said intestate, may be well & faithfully administered, applied & disposed of, do grant unto you the said Norman Todd, full power by these presents, to administer, and faithfully dispose of all & singular the said goods, chattels & credits; to ask, demand, recover & receive the debts which unto the said instestate, whilst living, and at the time of his death, did belong; and to pay the debts which the said intestate did owe, as far as such goods, chattels & credits will thereto extend & the law requre; hereby requiring you to make or cause to be made, a true & perfect inventory of all & singular the goods, chattels and credits of the said intestate, within a reasonable time, and return a _____icate thereof, to our Surrogate of our said County of Onondaga, within three months from the date of these presents; and if further personal property or assets of any kind not mentioned in any inventory that shall have been so made, shall come to your possession or knowledge, to make or cause to be made in like manner, a true & perfect inventory thereof, and return the same within two months after discovery thereof; and also to render a just & true account of administration when thereunto required; and we do ___ these presents, de_fute, constitute and appoint you the said Norman Todd administrator of all & singular the goods, chattels & credits, which were of the said Caleb Todd deceased.

The testimony whereof we have caused the seal of office of our said surrogate to the accounts affixed: Witness, John Fleming Junr, Surrogate of our said county, at Marcelius in said county of Onondaga, the Eighteenth day of August in the year of our Lord one thoussand either hundred and thirty seven.
