Augustus H. Lariviere / Rivers

[BJ's note: This is our early Rivers ancestor who moved his family from Brooklyn, N.Y. to Baltimore, Md. He was father of Joseph C. Rivers aka "Grampy".]

RIVERS -- On July 21, 1921, Augustus H., aged 73 years, beloved husband of thte late Elizabeth Rivers. (Brooklyn N.Y. papers please copy)

Funeral at the residence of his son, Harry C. Rivers, Maple avenue, fourth cottage west of Belair road, Overlea, Md.on Saturday at 3 pm. Interment in Baltimore Cemetery.

Catherine de Garay, nee Lariviere/Rivers

Catherine de Garay was the daughter of Joseph Rivers and Margaret Sherwood, both from Montreal, Canada. Catherine was born in Brooklyn and lived there her entire life until her death at age 52 on 5 Nov 1907. She was a widowed homemaker. Her place of death is noted as being at 296 Sackett St.

Elizabeth J. Eaton, nee Rivers

Elizabeth J. Eaton - Born in Brooklyn, NY., daughter of Joseph Rivers and Margaret Sherwood of Canada, and later Brooklyn, NY, died on 18 Oct 1912 at the age of 52, of Syncope. She lived all her life in Brooklyn. She was married at the time of death. She was interred in Cypress Hills cemetery on 13 Oct 1912.

Emma Diaz, nee Lariviere

[BJ's note: This is not from a published obituary, but is information obtained from her death certificate. Although not mentioned by name, we believe she is the daughter of Joseph Rivers and Margaret Sherwood of Canada, and later Brooklyn, NY. She was the wife of Jose Diaz of Spain, and later Brooklyn, NY.]

Emma was born in Canada, and had lived in Brooklyn for 30 years. Her age at death was 39 years and 2 months. She died on 13 July 1885 about 1 a.m. She was married, and a homemaker.

Emma M. de Garay

[BJ's note: This is not from a published obituary, but is information obtained from her death certificate. The French Canadian spelling of the surname LaRiviere is found as her mother's maiden name, which was later Americanized to Rivers. She was grandaughter of immigrants Joseph C. and Margaret LaRivere aka Rivers.]

Emma M. de Garay - Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., daughter of Francisco de Garay, who was born in Spain, and Catherine de LaRiviere, who was born in Brooklyn, NY. She died on 27 Mar 1926 at age 47. She was single. She was interred at Holy Cross Cemetery on 30 Mar 1926.

John Rivers

John Rivers was the son of Joseph Rivers and Margaret Sherwood, both born in Canada, and later living in Brooklyn, NY. He was born in NY, and died at age 59 years of age on 4 Jun 1916 in Brooklyn, with stated cause of death being Chronic Endocarditis. He was widowed at that time. Certificate states he had been a resident of Brooklyn for 58 years. His residence had been at 294 Smith street. He was interred at Holy Cross Cemetery on 8 Jun 1916.

Joseph Rivers

John Rivers was the son of Joseph Rivers and Margaret Suree, both born in Canada. He was born in Canada, and died at age 69 years of age on 13 Dec 1921 about noon in Brooklyn. He was widowed at that time. Certificate states he had been a resident of Brooklyn for 65 years, and employed as a Teamster. His residence had been at 4th street. He was interred at Holy Cross Cemetery on 8 Jun 1916.

RIVERS-----In Brooklyn, June 17, JOSEPH C. RIVERS, in the 57th year of his age. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral, from his late residence, 217-l/2 Smith st., on Thursday, the 19th inst, at 2 P.M.

Joseph Rivers, a night watchman, who was employed at J.P. Robinson's stores at the foot of Congress street, Brooklyn, put an end to his life yesterday by shotting himself in the head with a pistol. He was fifty-seven years of age, and lived with his family at No. 217 Smith st. He was arrested on the night of June 3 on the charge of shooting Cornelius Burns, a longshoreman, living at No. 374 Pearl st., this city, whom he accused of stealing sugar. Since that time Rivers has acted strangely. Yesterday morning he went home, as usual, about 7 o'clock. In a few minutes the report of a pistol was heard from a small room, opening off of the parlor, and Rivers was found lying on his back on the floor. He died soon after.

Louise C. Rivers, nee Carr

[BJ's note: This is not from a published obituary, but is information obtained from her death certificate. I believe she was wife of John Rivers, who was born in Cincinatti according to a birth certificate for a Louisa Rivers, who was born 19 Mar 1883 in Brooklyn, NY]

Louise C. Rivers was the daughter of John & Ellen Carr, both born in Brookly, NY. Louise was born in Brooklyn, NY, and lived there until her death at age 61 years of age on 15 Oct 1912 at 3:32 pm. She was married at that time. She was interred at Holy Cross Cemetery on 17 Oct 1912.

Kenneth "Ken" A. Savio

[BJ's note: Ken was the husband of Eleanor Savio, daughter of Dorothy Rivers, and granddaughter of Clement J. & Mary Rivers of Brooklyn, NY.]

SAVIO, Kenneth A. - 65, Port Richey [FL], passed away Jan. 16. He retired from General Telephone, and served in the Marine Corps during Vietnam. He was a member of the Secular Order of Franciscans and Order of Alhambra and PVA. Survivors include his wife, Eleanor; daughter Kim Kirbach Jackson; son Kurt (Meriam) Kirbach; grandsons, Seamus, Jacob and Conner; brother Wayne. The family will receive friends at Michels & Lundquist Funeral Home, 5228 Trouble Creek Rd., New Port Richey, Friday, from 2-4 & 6-8 pm. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 10 am from Our Lady Queen of Peace Church. Burial will follow at Grace Memorial Gardens. The family suggests that memorials may be made to order of Alhambra Charities, 4200 Leeds Avenue, Baltimore, Md. 21220.
